Presented by Eva Ash, Ph.D. & Beth Hollander, Ph.D. Working with college students involves a distinct set of challenges associated with the chronological transition into adulthood, which does not always coincide with emotional or developmental maturity. This presentation will examine several of these challenges, including increased prevalence of mental health concerns, substantial lifestyle transitions irrespective of student readiness, and the intense academic demands of the college environment. Effective treatment approaches and barriers to care will also be discussed. Career counseling is often a useful adjunctive treatment for college students struggling to figure out who they are, what their major will lead to, and what they want to pursue as a career. The presentation will provide a four-session model of career counseling for college students, including how to choose appropriate assessments among the many that are available, and how to help students identify their interests, aptitudes, and values that can influence career choice. The presentation will also address how these methods can be adapted for adults of any age. REGISTER HERE |
