February 2026 Workshop: Understanding Current Clinical Conceptualizations and Treatment Approaches for Trichotillomania in Children and Adults
Friday, February 06, 2026, 7:15 PM - 9:15 PM EST
Category: Workshops

Presented by Meghan Flannery, Ph.D.

Trichotillomania (TTM) is an obsessive-compulsive related disorder characterized by chronic, noncosmetic hair pulling resulting in hair loss despite repeated attempts to discontinue or reduce pulling. Although previous thought to be a rare disorder, recent evidence has found TTM to be relatively common within the general population and results in significant impairment across the lifespan. Individuals with TTM face notable barriers to treatment including knowledge of TTM and its treatment among healthcare providers. This workshop provides an overview of the current understanding and conceptualization of TTM including core clinical features, common comorbidities, and impact on quality of life and functioning. Evidence-based treatment for children, adolescents, and adults with TTM will be reviewed with emphasis on core components underlying different treatment approaches. The workshop will also review recommendations for implementing treatment for youths and adults and as well as treatment limitations and barriers.
