January 2026 Workshop: Motivational Interviewing
Friday, January 16, 2026, 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM EST
Category: Workshops
Presented by Thomas DiBlasi, Ph.D.
Motivational interviewing (MI) has become increasingly widespread since its founding in the early 1980s. There have now been over 2,000 randomized control trials (RCTs) showing mild to moderate effect sizes across multiple domains - addictions, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, and trauma to name a few. Given the widespread applicability of MI to diverse populations, and the ability to synthesize it with other treatment approaches (e.g., cognitive therapy, exposure therapy), it is no surprise that MI has become popular among clinicians, medical providers, and coaches. This presentation reviews the fundamentals of MI, the purported theories of how MI works, and includes a hands-on approach of developing your MI skills.
