December 2025 Workshop: Decolonizing Psychotherapy: Making Clinical Practice Inclusive for Everyone
Friday, December 05, 2025, 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM EST
Category: Workshops

Presented by Ayurdhi Dhar, Ph.D. & Sugandh Dixit, Ph.D.

The imminent need for decolonizing Psychology is reflected in multiple recent calls for action. These include APA’s 2023 presidential task-force geared towards this end, special issues in leading journals such as American Psychologist and Transcultural Psychiatry, recommendations of Canadian Truth and Reconciliation Commission, and Canadian Psychological Association’s response to these recommendations. In response to these, we offer a training and workshop that teaches therapists and clinical psychologists how to practice through a decolonizing lens. We bring the vast literature on decoloniality from South Asia, and Latin and South America, to bear upon real challenges clinicians face in their daily practice, especially in an increasingly diverse world. After covering foundations of decolonization, we offer practical tools clinicians can use in their therapeutic practice to unearth their Euro-centric assumptions, and we help engender skills that will allow them to work with diverse clientele without indulging in oppressive and harmful practices.
