Maternal mental health conditions are the leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths in the USA. In New York State specifically, maternal mental health conditions represent the third leading cause of pregnancy-related deaths. To address this critical issue and improve access to perinatal mental health care, New York State expanded the Office of Mental Health-funded Project TEACH to include maternal mental health services. In this presentation, we will provide an overview of how to screen and assess mental health concerns in pregnant and postpartum patients. Additionally, we will summarize the available Project TEACH maternal mental health services and discuss the recent expansion of the program.
