The target audience for this presentation is mental health professionals who are in clinical practice. The workshop will be given on an introductory level.

ABOUT THE PRESENTATION
This workshop will cover how to start a private practice, how to market your practice and develop a niche. Clinical issues, business issues, HIPAA, the SAFE Act, and malpractice insurance will also be addressed.
By the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will be able to:
- describe three ways to market a practice;
- enumerate three important elements to address in the initial session with a new patient;
- articulate what information is required to be included in each session note;
- explain the basic principles and concrete requirements of HIPAA.
ABOUT THE PRESENTER
Dr. Deena Abbe is a licensed psychologist. She has a private practice specializing in infants and children. Her areas of expertize include ADHD, Tourette’s Syndrome, Autism, social phobias, and aggression.
Dr. Barbara Fontana has been in private practice since 1979. She has been leading and presenting this workshop for SCPA biannually since 2005. In addition to being a licensed psychologist, she is an Advanced Clinician in Imago Relationship Therapy. Four years ago she transitioned from a full-time practice serving adults and couples to a part-time practice only working with couples.
Dr. Steven Hartman is a licensed psychologist and certified school psychologist. He is employed in the Sachem School District. He has had a part-time private practice for many years working primarily with children, adolescents and their families.
Dr. Laura Van Schaick-Harman is a licensed psychologist, certified school psychologist and a Board Certified- TeleMental Health provider. She has a private practice serving children, adolescents and adults. She offers online therapy services. She has a great deal of experience using social media both clinically and as a marketing tool.
