We will discuss classroom wide behavioral management plans, specific strategies for unusual learners and troubleshooting common behavioral challenges that are often encountered when teaching students with special needs. Practical, hands-on ideas and specific interventions will be presented and discussed.

By the conclusion of the presentation, attendees will be able to:

  1. plan and use classroom-wide behavioral management plans;
  2. modify general classroom management strategies to fit the needs of exceptional learners;
  3. recognize and describe the behavioral presentation of specific disorders prevalent in classrooms (such as ADHD, ASD, LD);
  4. describe specific strategies aimed for exceptional learners;
  5. list and describe general themes that are critical for the success of exceptional learners as they progress through school (such as aides involvement, independence, prompt dependence, social success, etc.)
